The girls on the Cicero-North Syracuse basketball team explained what motivated their selections and how the process works.
Junior Nicole Garvey went “old school.” Her favorite all-time player is Michael Jordan, so her away jersey is No.23. Since C-NS doesn’t have a No.23 home jersey, Garvey settled on No.33 for Boston legend Larry Bird.
Garvey, 16, grew up watching Jordan make his NBA comeback with Chicago and Washington. She’s worn 23 since the fifth grade.
“When I was young, my dad was into basketball too, so I started watching and reading about him (Jordan),” she said. “I was real mad there wasn’t a home 23. But Larry Bird is good too, so I took that.”
Junior Ashley Waldron also looked to the NBA.
